ALFRED DUNHILL
One of the most important parts of my career was an incredible opportunity to work as a Bespoke Accessories Modelist at Alfred Dunhill. I have worked alongside artisan team to support AW19, SS20 & AW20 collections. Learning from the best craftsmen of the leather industry, I created a variety of products, from alligator briefcases to the entire interiors for a vintage Land Rover Defender. This has helped me enormously to achieve a new perspective as a designer.
THE MAKING OF LEATHERGOODS
Home grown artisan skill has always been a particular USP of Dunhill’s, which boasts an atelier in Walthamstow, north-east London, where its leather goods are carefully crafted by hand. Roll upon roll of leathers and exotic skins are stitched, riveted and sewn by a small team – some of whom have worked there for more than 30 years.
“That place is one of the most incredible assets we have,” says Dunhill’s creative director Mark Weston. One of the most iconic bags Alfred Dunhill ever made is company’s beloved Wolsley briefcase, made in the shape of a classic doctor’s bag. It takes at least six months of training to be able to put the bag together and it takes around 30 hours to make.
